The Story of Sunny Girl Gardens
Becoming a Product
 Is there a
real Sunny Girl? Yes, there is. Our very own, elusive, Jenifer Valley is the one
and only Sunny Girl. You may not see her at the garden shows, or if she is
there, she will blend with the crowd, talking to other gardeners and gathering
information. She is happiest in our test garden (sorry, not yet open to the
public), where she continues to evaluate all of the "green" options available
and improve our already outstanding product. While you may not have the chance
to actually meet Jenifer, her secret to gardening success is available to
everyone. We believe that our soil and approach to container gardening is the
best organic solution on the market today.
 The History
Jenifer and her partner, Mike Mullins, got their start
when they had the unique opportunity to manage a vineyard. At that point in
time, they knew nothing of growing grapes nor were they connoisseurs of fine
wine. They had plenty of gardening experience but had never been in commercial
agriculture. That all changed.
With the passion and desire to learn, Mike & Jenifer took a
leap of faith and moved into one of Yamhill Counties finest vineyards. It was
already well established and very well known to prominent wine makers. The
grapes were sought after and pre-sold every season. Vintners' would bid for the
harvests years in advance.
They took over the operations from the original owner who
had spent his entire life building this preserve. He was retiring due to his age
and health, not his lack of passion, and known for being strict, organic and
methodical. He had traveled the world for the starts and was willing to do
whatever it took to grow the finest grapes. He was very cautious about someone
else taking over the dream he had built, but had confidence in leaving his
legacy in their hands.
 How She Developed the Recipe
Aside from the vineyard Mike and Jenifer maintained quite
an array of flowers and a very pleasant garden. Jenifer, who has been fighting
cancer since her teen years, began experimenting with the extensive vegetable,
herb, and flower garden available on the grounds, using the techniques learned
from tending the vineyard. Convinced that organic gardening and the produce it
supplied would help to improve her health, she started testing different soils
and nutrients to try to develop the optimal fully organic formula. She
succeeded.  When she applied the
resulting product to flowers as well, the results were amazing.
Jenifer's recipe has been
applied to a broad range of plants using microbiology and natural processes
instead of chemical and man-made ingredients. She found a safe, easy way to
help the plant be the best it can be, using only nature
 She took it one more step and
designed the mix to be easy, so that all a person would have to do is water and
grow.
Jenifer
did so well with her vegetables and flowers that she began sharing her secret
recipe with friends and local garden clubs. It became so successful that she was
often being asked to teach her methods.
Sharing Her Success
Mike & Jenifer began
visiting different garden clubs around the state, teaching her
methods of growing and sharing her
recipe. These 2 hour classes consisted of a Multi Media show with movies,
charts, graphs, and everything on growing from A to Z. Sunny Girl Gardens still
offers those classes.
This was the beginning of Sunny Girl
Gardens.
